A brief review of French Higher Education System
Attached file:
Admission to "Grandes Ecoles" is highly selective.
Standard entry is by taking a competitive examination after either one year of two years of "preparatory classes", beyond French Baccalauréat.
EMAC belongs to the family of French Grandes Ecoles, its curriculum and diploma being accredited by a national body, the "Commission des Titres d'Ingénieur", or CTI.
Initial two years are at Undergraduate level, according to the LMD scheme of the Bologna Process.
The curriculum is a common core of basic sciences at the level of the last year of a Bachelor degree.
Final two years are at Graduate level. This is precisely where international admission is performed, for applicants having a Bachelor of Science degree (or equivalent degree).
The curriculum is mainly focused on engineering sciences and on some specializations (also called “majors”).
The "Diplôme d'Ingénieur" is a Master-level degree.
The "Master Recherche" is the new National Master Diploma that validates a 2-year course of study preparing to research activity. It is a prerequisite for students aiming at preparing a Docteur degree. Strongly motivated students may prepare a Master Recherche jointly with the graduate-level years of the Ingénieur curriculum if they ambition preparation of a doctorate.
The Docteur degree is a (nominally) 3-year course of study beyond the Master degree. Admission is open to national students having a "Master Recherche" or to international students holding a Master of Science or equivalent degree.
