Seven Schools

The Ecole des Mines d'Albi-Carmaux is a member of the Groupe des Ecoles des Mines (GEM).

GEM comprises 7 medium size schools across France (Albi, Alès, Douai, Nancy, Nantes, Paris, St-Etienne), all answerable to the Ministry of Economy, Finance and Industry, with the exception of Nancy, which operates under the aegis of the National Education Service. The Schools have a shared approach, offering teaching and research in the service of manufacturing industry. The seven Schools in the GEM network are amongst the most prestigious of France's Grandes Ecoles.

THE GEM offers students and the business world access to its experience of over 100 years higher education and research, and to its vast network of business ties, helping them to anticipate and manage change (internationalization, acceleration of technological progress, human factors, etc.).

International Profile

GEM has signed innumerable partnership conventions with overseas universities in order to increase the international profile of the seven schools in the Group.
This outward-looking spirit ensures that students at EMAC are able to take up training opportunities outside France and develop their skills through contact with students and/or teacher researchers from other countries.

Key Data

GEM:

  • over 5,000 students enrolled, studying various branches of science and technology (information technology, materials, environmental, chemistry, etc.)

  • close ties with the business world, as attested by the large amount of research work carried out in partnership with the commercial sector, and which also shows why we have such success in placing 2,000 graduates every year

  • a genuinely international outlook (almost 10 % of GEM students are non-French) that is the result of both the GEM network's size and close ties to over 200 of the most forward-looking universities around the world, ensuring that every student has the chance to enjoy a significant period of time abroad; indeed, 15% of recent graduates go on to commence their careers outside France

  • quality teaching provided by a large body of trainers from the world of business, as well as almost 1,000 teacher researchers, permanent staff members whose skills are enhanced and deepened through the research they conduct in partnership with industry, leading to the production of around 200 theses and 2,000 publications annually. Every student's time at EMAC includes several months as an intern working in a business
